The Bottom Line

The bottom line

The Panthers have placed all their eggs in Delhomme's basket. They've given him more weapons downfield and made wholesale changes to the offensive line in an attempt to keep his blindside protected. They've also brought in a bruising rookie running back in the hopes he'll create his own holes and take pressure off the passing game. Yes, the Panthers might go far this year, but only as far as Delhomme's elbow and bounce-back will allow. If everything falls just right, the five most feared words in the English language might just end up being, "You're playing the Carolina Panthers."

Still think an experienced QB on the bench would be a good idea. As I said before, I'll see how Delhomme does. Before I go back to my real thoughts...the leash is short and no excuses this time. The bottom line, if the elbow isn't ready to go, a QB should be picked up as insurance. Or, if bad throws due to "the elbow" another experienced QB should have been picked up. No excuses he has the weapons and revamp offensive line, I want to some scoring this year

Dude, if the team really didn't think Jake's arm was nearly 100%, they would have brought in another QB. With their arses on the line, Fox and Hurney wouldn't be foolish enough to go without another true veteran at QB if there was any serious uncertainty about Jake's arm.

Trust me, the arm is fine and if Jake flops, it won't be because of his arm. He's been throwing pain-free for weeks now. As far as his calibre of QB, that's up for debate and there are the haters and believers. I personally think that Jake is a good, not great, QB and will take the offense as far as his surrounding cast will allow. The past few seasons with a shakey OL, mediocre running game and no WR threat outside of Smitty (who saw double and triple coverage) Jake was very mediocre.

This year (good health intact *crossed fingers*) the offense is as potent or moreso than the 2003 squad. In thoery, Jake should have a very good, if not, Probowl year. Anything short will be a glaring implication of his shortcomings.

I'm looking for a 17+ touchdown, 8- pick season. I'll be humbled if I'm wrong on one account, but I'll eat some SERIOUS crow if I'm wrong on both elements of my prediction. (INJURY doesn't count--14 game minimum).

He was on fire last year bfore he got hurt. 8 tds and only 1 pick in 3 games. If he comes in with the same fire and all is well with his arm, then I see even more than 17 tds from Jake. But if an injury does happen, how do you guys feel about Moore or Basenez?

Matt Moore is like a young Delhomme. He'll win us some games if thrust into the starting lineup, but hasn't matured...blossomed if you will, yet. Jake had the potential when he was younger, but couldn't quite convince the Saints staff he was capable but being a starter, though they knew he was a solid number two. That's how the fans here (and I feel the Panthers' staff) think about Moore. Were comfortable if he had to fill in for a game or two and would fare well, but I don't think anyone is sold on the fact Matt is ready to take over the offense as the heir to Jake...not for a couple of years.

Bazenez is exactly what he is, a third string QB and nothing else. We would be pretty screwed if we had to rely on him anything other than spot play.
