Hey everyone! This will be the first of many "Kelz Khronicals" for the '08 race season. I hope that you will enjoy sharing my journey again this year!
ARCA test at Rockingham For the first time ever, I got to go to "The Rock". I've watched many of a race on t.v. but have never got to go. The most memoriable race was a few years ago when Kasey Kahne was a rookie. That was the race where he and Matt Kenseth were side by side coming out of turn 4 and crossed the finish line together. I was still in Ohio at the time at Buffalo Wild Wings standing on a bar stool yelling "GO KASEY" LOL....the good old days! When we pulled up to the track on Friday, I had cold chills run thru my body. Wow...."the Rock" i'm really here, is all that was going thru my head. I was standing on pit road with Mike, Marc Davis and Joey Logano (future stars of NASCAR) when a van pulled up and asked if they wanted to take a ride along. Marc and Joey jumped in the van. Mike grabbed a hold of me and we also loaded into the van. Wow....not only did I get to come to the track...I'm actually on it!!! We were only going about 35 mph and the banking was scary in turn 3 and 4. I can't imagine what it would be like going full speed!!! The rest of the day consisted of me standing on top of the hauler watching all the cars test. Mike was spotting for both Marc and Joey, so I just hung out where I knew I wouldn't be in the way. Marc only went out for a few laps. He needed to do what they call a "shake down" of the car. When you get a new car with a new engine you take it to the track to "shake it down". That way you know that the car is put together right...lol! I'm sure there is more to it than just that...but thats what I got out of it when I asked...ha ha ha. Joey was actually there to test. He complained of being tight all day long. Yet he was fastest on the chart all day long. By the end of the day the car only got better. He looked VERY racey the last few laps, yet still complained the car didn't feel right. A bit of a perfectionist, I suppose. That is exactly what will get him in the sprint cup! Even though I just went to tag along with Mike, it was great to be back at the track. This weekend we will be racing in the NASCAR Wheelen Modified race at the Southern National Speedway in Kenly, NC. I can't wait!!!! |

Great story
So what is Joey like? I have heard quite a bit about him. Some say he may be the next Jeff Gordon. |

Joey....a quiet kid. Well behaved, comes from big money family. But I am good friends with his sister and even though they live in this mill dollar house.....you wouldn't know it. (she is a professional ice skater!!!!) Couldn't ask for friendlier people!!
As far as racing goes......Joey has got what it takes. I first met him a couple years ago racing in the Pro Cup series. He pretty much dominated...yeah he is in great equipment, but he could drive a dump truck and win...... pay attention to this kid.....he very well is the next jeff gordon. Probably see him in the 20 when the big man leaves... shhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! |
