7 team penalized for Daytona infraction

NASCAR has issued penalties and fines to the #7 team that competes in the Sprint Cup Series, as a result of rule infractions found during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway. The #7 Dodge driven and owned by Robby Gordon was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-3.10A (unapproved front bumper cover) of the 2008 NASCAR rule book. The violations were found during opening day inspection for the Daytona 500 on Feb. 8. As a result, Gordon has been penalized 100 championship driver and owner points. Crew chief Frank Kerr has been fined $100,000, suspended for the next six Sprint Cup Series events until April 9 and placed on probation until Dec. 31, 2008.(

NASCAR has to set the standards for the season at Daytona
So they will be looking EXTRA hard and dropping the gavel on penatilties alot heavier .

And really what chance in Hell did Robbie have of winning DAYTONA even with the cheating !!!

#7 Frank Kerr, the crew chief , was fined $100,000 and is not eligible to return to the track until the April 12 race in Phoenix. Kerr was also placed on probation through the end of the year.



#88 Dale Earnhardt Jr.


In the Nationwide Series, Earnhardt's car was found to have an illegal spoiler during an inspection. He was docked 50 points, owner Rick Hendrick was docked 50 points and crew chief Chad Walter was fined $25,000 and suspended for the next six races. Walter is also on probation through the end of the year.



Drivers
Kertus Davis, Johnny Sauter, David Gilliland, David Stremme and Cale Gale were all docked 25 points and their owners docked 25 points for various infractions discovered after qualifying.

Crew Chiefs
Gene Allnutt (Davis), Newt Moore (Sauter), Bob Edwards (Gilliland), Steve Darne (Stremme) and Charlie Wilson (Gale), were all fined $15,000 and suspended for the next six Nationwide races. They were all placed on probation until the end of the year.

In addition, Jerry Baxter, the crew chief for David Reutimann, was fined $5,000 and placed on probation until July 9 for an infraction discovered on opening day inspection.

Truck Series

Bodine was fined 25 points and car owner Stephen Germain was fined 25 points for an infraction found before qualifying. Mike Hillman Jr., the crew chief, was fined $10,000 and suspended for the next four Truck Series events. He was also placed on probation until the end of the year.

Rick Renn, the crew chief for Ron Hornaday Jr., was fined $5,000 for a violation found in opening day inspection.

Well he did beat 80% of the other drivers, and if there were a 7 car pileup on the last last lap then just maybe

In my opinion I don't see why they take points away if the infraction is found and corrected before the race I could see taking pts away if the infraction was found after the race such as the car being to low post race inspection
