Hey guys! Its finally that time of the year!
We might have changed the series that we run, but the preperation is the same. They still thrashed late every night last week getting the car ready. One thing that is different this year than last.....scheduled time to pull out of the MHR shop in Kannapolis, NC was 5:20am. Time we actually pulled out....(drum roll....) 5:20am! YAY...not one time last year did we pull out on time...lol!
When we arrived in Kenly, NC it was a cold dreary day. We stood in the line to sign up for our pit passes, for way to long. I guess thats how it always is at the beginning of the season.
When we finally parked in the infield I got out of the truck and quickly found the restroom. I then took a walk down pit road, and realized it was really cold out. I climbed back into the truck, and that is where I stayed the rest of the day. As the day went on it got colder and colder and colder! I layed down in my bunk and took a nap and woke up to rain hitting the windshield. Ofcourse they draw it out hours before they actually call a race, but they finally did.
So here we were all ready for that debut in the modified and it is a rain out!!! UHHHHHHHH!!!!!
But a trip with MHR could never be uneventful!
We were traveling home on I-85 south. As we came to the town of Salsbury, NC there were cops at every exit. There were even cops standing on the side of the road to throw out those nail strips to cut down a tire. Oh yeah....there was a high speed chase, and we were getting ready to be in the middle of it. Pop had the CB on and all the truckers were talking about it. We were a few miles down the road and figured we were to far away.....when all of a sudden a car with no lights on passed us on our right side. Yeah...on the shoulder of the road...going about 100!!! Holy crap...we ARE in the middle of it! The cops weren't to far behind them, there must have been 20 of them! A few miles up the road the traffic came to a stop. They had wrecked and by the time we got to them they had them out of the car, hand-cuffed, and laying on the ground.
Even though we didn't race, we sure did have some excitment!
We travel to Greenville, SC this Saturday night. The weather doesn't look good, I hope the rain holds off....I'm ready to race!!
