Last kite thred for a bit... events in NC and AL that you might be interested in

I know this is not the kite forum -- though that would not be a terrible idea -- but I did want to let you all know that there are two upcoming kite events in "the area" where I'll be flying. If you are bored and looking for womething to do, you would be welcome.

First, at Shelton Vineyards in Dobson NC there will be the Wind and Wine festival on April 5. This is off 77 about an hour and a hhalf or less North of Charlotte. Directions and details at http://www.sheltonvineyards.com/defa...on=76&objId=32
No charge, there is space to fly your own kite and will be some on sale while they last if you, for some reason I can't understand, don't already own a lot of kites... Won't have the Mega Flag at that one, but will have some pretty big kites, and there will be a number of other kiters there showing off their stuff.

The other event in in Tuskegee, AL, Sat April 12 -- the Heritage Kite Festival, honoring the Tuskegee Airmen. The Mega Flag will be there, the OLO octopus (known as the second biggest kite in America! ), the iQuad sport kite precision demo team will be flying -- should be a fun event.

Do y'all ever fly in Florida? I'd love to attend one of these things is they were closer.

There;s an annual event in January at Treasure Island, near Tampa. I've been to it a few times, though I missed last two years.

There's also the Kite Trade Association annual trade show, which I think will be in Clearwater this winter. If it is, the indoor business part of the show is not open to the public, but I may be out on the beach flying demos of the company I work with's product, as other folks will be doing with their product.

There are a few events on the East COast as well, but I am not sure off the top of my head where of when.

If you are interested, check ou the America Kitefliers Association site at www.aka.kite.org -- there is a link at the top of the page to the event calendar. Checking in every month or so should spot nearby events...

On the off chance that anybody here was heading to Alabama, that event for the Mega Flag kite has been cancelled. I understand a small kite event will stll be held, with hopes of rescheduling the Big Kites for a later time...

There goes a nice little chunk of disposable income!
