Guess that the group entertaining at half time really needed
the income to supplement their Social Security. I think those guys looked older than me. Good to see someone in my age group still able to work. (I'm 73, if you gotta know) Great win for the Saints! The NFC South, alive and well. |

Just wanted to chime in on this year's Super Bowl entertainment since I'm a musician myself. There have been bigger on field productions (dancers, extras, flags, streamers etc) and of course there was the MTV fiasco featuring Janet Jackson's boob
but I was actually knocked out by The Who's halftime show. They performed a very well arranged (produced and mixed) medley of their hits, adhering to tight timing guidelines and brought a light show that put the whole national touring circuit on notice. Their light show was incredible and upped the bar for concert lighting (as the industry knows it) and I'm sure stage managers from all the big shows will be calling their lighting companies tomorrow. ![]() I thought The Who did a excellent halftime job and give them 3 thumbs up! Probably the best overall halftime show I've seen. However, I can't say the same for the pregame National Anthem by Carrie Underwood. (What was she thinking?) This is probably the best version of the National Anthem performed at a Super Bowl. If this doesn't make your heart swell, you better check your pulse. |

Watching The Who brought an old really fun memory!!
In 1967, my Mom drove me, my oldest son who was 12 then, my aunt and my cousin to the Springfield State Fair cause the kids wanted to see The Who. The Association was the opening act and my Mom thought they were great. Now my Mom was in the big bands era, Frank Sinatra, etc. so when The Who finished and broke the guitar, she freaked out...doesn't sound funny but it was hilarious!! Agree, BucShot....Whitney Houston version brings tears to your eyes!! |

It was kinda' odd to see Pete Townshend lay his guitar down so gently after the show.

Wow! Thanks for the video. That's what it's supposed to sound like. I didn't get to hear it live. Missed the first five minutes of the game (Church night) and all the pre game.
If you went to see this group in the 60's, they ARE old enough to collect their SS! Spectacular half time show. Still impressed with the National Anthem! |

Disagree with The Who performance. Although the lighting, etc., was spectacular, the old voices should have cashed in their chips years ago.
Agree with the Carrie Underwood thing - love her, but all I heard was a bunch of screeching. She could do better than that. |

Terrible? As a professional musician I totally disagree. I never was a big Who fan but I thought they put on a spectacular halftime show. Sure they slacked on the vocals but playing the same songs for over 40 years creates some bad habits.
They arranged a smooth, well timed medley of their hits, performed it well live and brought a spectacular light show all for a one time 12 minute segment. The naysayers and critics don't have a band, no hits, no crew, no lights or equipment and no 12 minute Super Bowl videos. So sure, it's easy for them to criticize but you better hope they don't get next year's halftime gig... |
